The Finance Officer – Care Division (FO), Senior Vice President role presents an accomplished executive financial professional with an exceptional executive opportunity to provide overall fiduciary responsibility, strategic leadership and operational management for financial services to assure the long-term financial viability of Adventist Health through the Care Division. 


The successful individual will create, execute and manage strategies within a highly complex healthcare ecosystem and simultaneously create and maximize external partnerships that optimize current performance while creating conditions of success for future strategies.


The FO leads the strategic development, activation, alignment and monitoring of the financial plan for the Care Division. Provides a financial prospective on innovation and profitable growth; leverages this perspective to improve risk-awareness, strategic decision making and performance management integration.   Provides thought leadership to Care Division leadership team regarding financial strategy development and systems to drive financial results across the division.  Specifically, this position is focused on improving operating performance and strategic growth for Care Division while ensuring the success on our partnership with Huron for revenue cycle.


Reporting directly to the President of Care Division with matrixed responsibility to the system CFO, this executive will be expected to develop, lead and continuously improve the financial strategy for Care Division.  This executive will also partner with the other members of the leadership team to understand the needs of the markets, human performance, physician services and clinical care and assist in providing solutions to meet the needs of Care Division.



This individual is responsible to:

  • Increase transparency when engaging both internal and external stakeholders and partners
  • Serves as a strong strategic thought partner with operational and clinical leadership
  • Strong ability to assess issues and translate into appropriate approaches that are executed on in a timely and consistent manner
  • Strong ability to design and execute processes across a complex system while keeping the impact to the end-user in mind
  • Strong ability to navigate and lead through ambiguity with a focus on anticipating trends and potential issues

Balance Sheet/Cash Management:

  • Sets short and long-term cost structure targets; oversees system cash and asset management, investment allocation and capital allocation
  • Evaluates the economic and social forces and government influences, and their effects upon the organization’s financial health
  • Reviews and approves key finance outputs (e.g. period end financial statements, long range plan, capital plan, operating budget, forecast)
  • In partnership with system CFO, leads the Care Division process for strategic capital funding sources and process to access capital that is fully integrated into the overall Adventist Health approach

Financial Services:

  • Manages business complexity while minimizing risk as the business executes on its strategies
  • Contributes strategic thought leadership for patient focused affordability including a consumer-focused pricing strategy
  • Understanding of critical access and rural health
  • Risk-based reimbursement/financial management

Strategic Growth:

  • Determines the validity and strength of opportunities for acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and strategic alliances within the Care Division in collaboration with System Chief Financial Officer.


You'll be successful with the following qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Master's Degree in business administration, management, health care management, or related field: Required

Work Experience:

  • Ten years leadership experience in positions of increasing responsibility, scale, and complexity: Required
